concept

Forgotten Time follows an aging character dealing with their own memory loss who is visited by a doctor that gives them a series of medicines that allows them to travel back and remember different points in their life.

The primary narrative driven experience is the Virtual Reality Game where the user can play through a non-linear narrative driven experience with the hopes of high replayability, exploration and discovery through the different environments and time periods they can visit.

The secondary aspect of the experience will be through Augmented Reality. The user can look at multiple face filters which will show what they will look like in the different time periods and ages that they were experiencing in virtual reality. These will be accessed through instagram face filters linked to Spark AR where the user can also navigate around different elements in the filter to find out more information, story and clarity on some parts of the experience they may not have seen in the VR game.

The experience takes place in one apartment over different decades and points in time of the character’s life. The narrative is told through a nonlinear experience where you can choose to take any of the three medicines in any random order to travel back through their memories. Similar to the character’s journey of remembering and uncovering their past, the player will also be part of this mystery and exploration to find out more about the character they are playing, who they are and the life they have lived.

The story begins with the character at eighty years of age living on their own, reminiscing over old photos they have around the apartment. The medicines within the opening scene will be used as a scene changer or memory trigger where the player can lift these medicines towards their head to consume them and start a transition to another random scene.

The medicines will allow you to travel back to the character at age ten, age twenty-nine and age fifty-three where you will meet and find out more about their family and loved ones by completing tasks in their memories.

One of the main gameplay mechanics of this experience is how the user will transition and trigger the change of memory or time travel in our experience. The user can walk around the different environments using continuous movement and rotation in four different time periods of the apartment including 1980s, 1990s, 2020s and our interpretation of the future.

The player can grab and move around certain objects in the scenes while also being able to press certain buttons to trigger events and placing certain objects to snap in place on certain locations that may also trigger an event, dialogue or animation.

Augmented Reality

Our experience is spread across two platforms where the user can access certain aspects of it through Virtual Reality and other aspects through Augmented Reality.
