Desire-2019 Virtual Reality Game in the BFA Exhibition
This is a virtual reality experience built inside unity which eventually was be exhibited at the undergraduate BFA exhibition in the School of Art Institute of Chicago(SAIC) between 2019. March 8th-2019. March 30th.
Below I will start with my concept development and go through the whole experience. There are few documentation videos(such as how it was installed and played by the visitors)of the experience at the end of the page.
CONCEPT
During the 19th century, the legal rights about Americans that are not white skin had always being topics for people to argue about. Nowadays, there are still many people in minority groups fight for their rights, including the marriage rights for lgbt, the equal work opportunity rights for women and men, and etc.
In my hometown China, the questions about rights are also huge topics that people are always arguing with. Some people want the rights that can be “see”, for example, the right to have food for everyone to eat, the right to have social security no matter poor or rich, the right to have welfares, public sources, and other things for everyone.
On the other hand, there are people who also ask for the rights that can not be “seen”, such as the rights to love anyone in any gender and marry them, the rights for women to not be pushed by the society towards only marriage but other ways to live for their lives. However, some of the people asking for both types of rights, but some of the people see the other types of rights as unnecessary, not important or unachievable.
Later on, I moved from using Maya to create these scenes towards Unity to build up a space for the players to get involve with the environment. Next is some screenshots from the Unity game.

This game has two different environments. The players are able to transfer between two worlds by some triggers that hided inside the game.
One of the world includes many “physical“ elements, and the other one contains a lot of psychological elements.
